Supporting your working parents
How does Emergency Childcare work?
Childcare arrangements sometimes break down. A child might be too poorly to go to nursery, the childminder could be on holiday or perhaps the grandparents are on strike. When this happens, it can be a pain, especially if you are a working parent and need to be at, well, work!
With Emergency Childcare, when the unavoidable happens, we arrange backup childcare, across the UK, with as little as 30 minutes' notice.
Our highly trained nannies and childminders are fully DBS/PVG checked and have had First Aid training. As well as being regulated by Ofsted and other appropriate regulatory bodies, the majority of our nurseries have been used and recommended by individual parents.
So we can offer your employees total peace of mind when their normal childcare arrangements break down.
As simple as that. And it works.
So if you have individuals you'd like to support, why not buy memberships for them today...
How much will it cost?
Emergency Childcare membership ranges from £41- £66 (+VAT) per person per year, depending on the number of working parents you'd like to support.
Parents pay for the actual childcare themselves, (which will vary depending on the type of care sought and location), but as a family friendly employer, you may well want to suggest that they expense back this cost, or perhaps a proportion of it. After all, they will be at work as a result...
To become an employer of choice - working parents represent a very large talent pool. Women now account for nearly half of the workforce in the UK, with over 80% becoming mothers during their working life. There's also a growing desire amongst working fathers to resolve the work and family conflict better. So naturally, more and more enlightened companies are embracing the need to support family friendly working.
To increase engagement and productivity - as research has repeatedly demonstrated, engaged employees are more productive, and older employees and women typically demonstrate greater engagement with their employer. Many working parents fall into these categories and the family friendly support and flexibility offered by employers really contributes to engaging them.
To bolster employee retention and loyalty - it's not surprising that working parents value employers who support and enable them to successfully combine work and family. Many companies have seen their post maternity return to work (and longer term retention) rates improve dramatically when they've put in place initiatives to make it easier and more attractive to return to work. Looking at the cost aspect alone, replacing senior staff members is expensive. Family friendly working practices represent the most commercially sound way of harnessing and retaining a generation of talented people.
To reduce absenteeism - 50% of non-manual workers in the private sector cite home/family responsibilities as a major cause of short term absence, second only to minor illnesses. And over 90% of working parents suffer multiple childcare breakdowns in any given year. The provision of Emergency Childcare can address this issue significantly.
To help parents balance work and family - working lives these days need to dovetail with many other roles and responsibilities. For working parents, these competing demands can impact on job productivity and happiness at work. Get it right and the employees you help combine career and family successfully will be the most engaged, productive and loyal members of your team.
Who else offers it?
No-one. Well almost no-one.
There are really only two options for companies that decide to implement a backup childcare service.
There's Emergency Childcare, which we believe is the most cost effective, flexible and comprehensive solution - or you buy a number of permanent nursery places.
Permanent nursery places are expensive and will not suit all your employees. By definition the location will be difficult for some and the hours are rigid.
Are there any legal implications?
On the legal side some people worry that there are potential liabilities offering childcare through a service such as this. There aren't - but we can provide a detailed legal opinion setting out why no liability could or does exist. Please feel free to ask.
